He was 96. Murphy was recognized as a Disney Legend in 2007 for his significant contributions to the company and is considered to be one of the most admired and respected businessmen of his era. Murphy distinguished himself as a responsible corporate citizen by placing a consistent emphasis on public service. This allowed him to achieve success while also leading Capital Cities to success. Arthur Thomas Murphy, III, Spring Garden Township: Arthur Thomas Murphy, III passed away at the age of 74 on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 3:37 PM at the Wellspan York Hospital. He was a resident of Spring Garden Township, York. He was Joanne Murphy’s husband when they were married. He was the son of the late Arthur T. Murphy, Jr. and the late Belle L. (Harris) Murphy and was born in York on April 25, 1948. His parents both passed away. After graduating from Suburban High School in 1966, he went on to study at Salem College and then received his degree in 1970 from West Virginia University. He spent the better part of 25 years working as an Agent for Prudential Insurance Company, and he also worked as a Real Estate Agent for Eisenhart Real Estate on the side. He worked at Murph’s Study Hall for a total of 32 years, 19 of which were spent as the business’s owner. In addition, he served the needs of York College students as the proprietor of Murph’s Other Bar and Murph’s Other Suds Laundromat, which he ran jointly with his wife and sons. His most recent position was as the owner of Mukie’s Seal Coating, which he held from 2008 until the year 2021 when he decided to retire. Full Obituary

Murphy, who served as a revered leader and patron of our institution for the better part of half a century. Tom was a revered Trustee of the medical center from 1972 until 2022 and served as chairman of the board from 1984 until 1997. His tenure there spanned the years 1972 through 2022. Tom, who was famous for his acumen in business, provided invaluable organizational guidance and was an essential contributor to the expansion and revitalization of our organization over the course of many years. He was a generous philanthropist, and as a result, he had a transformative impact on NYU Langone. He supported a large number of critical priority initiatives, which assisted our medical students in excelling, and enhanced care for patients and families in need. Tom Murphy’s devoted wife, Suzanne Crosby Murphy, passed away before him. Together, they had four children: Emilie Murphy (Byron Nimocks), Thomas S. Murphy, Jr. (Karen Murphy), who is also a Trustee of NYU Langone and chairs the Child Study Center Advisory Board, Mary Murphy Conlin (John Conlin), and Kathleen Murphy.
