Thomas Dobosz Death and Obituary: The fatal crash that occurred early Sunday morning on the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) claimed the life of Rolling Meadows resident Thomas Dobosz, who was flown in serious condition from the scene of the accident.
On Wednesday, Mr. Dobosz passed away while being treated at the Loyola University Medical Center. He fought for his life after his wife, Lauren Dobosz, who was 31 years old, passed away at the site of the accident together with her children: Ella, who was 5 years old, Nicholas, who was 7 years old, Lucas, who was 8 years old, and Emma, who was 13 years old. Katriona Koziara, popularly known as Kat, was only 13 years old when she passed away. She was a buddy who was in their van.
On Sunday morning at approximately 2:11 a.m., the family was traveling westbound on Interstate 90 in McHenry County on their way to Minnesota for a vacation when they were involved in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver who was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the expressway. This collision caused both vehicles to catch fire.
The death toll from the catastrophic collision that occurred on Sunday now reached eight with the departure of Mr. Dobosz. This includes Jennifer Fernandez, who is 22 years old and hails from Carpentersville. She was the driver of the other vehicle.
On Chicago’s Northwest side, the Dobosz family was highly associated with the Oriole Park Falcons football and cheerleading teams. Both the mother and the father committed a significant amount of their time to helping the coach and volunteering with the other parents and players.
On Monday, August 1, at Oriole Park, the Falcons hosted a vigil while hundreds of people gathered in the field to commemorate and mourn. The vigil was held by the Falcons.
A GoFundMe campaign established to assist the Dobosz family with funeral costs is still running. The initial objective was to raise $50,000, but thanks to approximately 1,900 donors, we have received $110,000. This was accomplished in just four days.
