The driver of a vehicle who died Wednesday after being strike by a Lake County Sheriff’s auto in Gary has been determined.

Gloria Melton, 77, of the 400 block of Hamlin Street, was pronounced at the scene at 1 p.m., according to the Lake County Coroner. Melton died of blunt pressure trauma and the method of dying was an incident, in accordance to the coroner.

At 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, the Indiana State Police officials at the Lowell Article were being referred to as by the Lake County Sheriff’s officials to examine a crash involving a Lake County officer at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Colfax street, according to an Indiana Point out Police press release.

An original investigation observed that Officer Zachary Norcutt was driving a black 2019 Dodge Charger law enforcement car east on 5th Avenue when it strike a silver 2005 Toyota Corolla, which was building a left transform from 5th Avenue on to southbound Colfax, according to the release.

Melton was ejected from the auto and pronounced dead at the scene, in accordance to the launch.

Norcutt, who was on duty and assigned to patrol in the region, was transported to Methodist Medical center Southlake for treatment of non-existence-threatening accidents, in accordance to the launch. Norcutt is also a K-9 officer, and the puppy was not injured in the crash, according to the release.

In a statement, Gary Law enforcement Department spokeswoman lieutenant Dawn Westerfield stated the Indiana State Law enforcement is investigating the crash pursuing Lake County protocol. Gary officers responded to the scene to assist the investigation, she mentioned.
