On August 29, 2022, Susie Jones, who resided in Gig Harbor, passed away with her family by her side. Susie will live on in our memories and our hearts forever. As a member of the family, a friend, and an instructor, she had an impact on the lives of many others. She was always outgoing and sociable, and she maintained close relationships with the people she met throughout her life. She had a great sense of humor and was also considered to be sensitive and spiritual in addition to having a great sense of humor. Both the kids and the professors held her in high esteem due to her roles as a teacher and a coach. Susie is a member of the class of 1975 that graduated from PHS. She participated in college field hockey, softball, and basketball teams.
CWU granted her a Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching, and City University awarded her a Master of Arts degree. In addition to that, she held a certification in Watsu therapy. Both in Kirkland and in Hawaii, she was a teacher. She considered Hawaii to be her second home, and she had a strong love for her life there as well as the many friends and students she had made there. Her parents, Tunney and Carol Jones, as well as her brother, Mike, passed on before her death. The loss of Susie will be felt keenly by her three sisters, nine nephews, three great nephews, and two great nieces. Susie received her diploma from Kelso High School in the year 1988. In 1988, she tied the knot with Scott Risner, Sr., but the couple later parted ways. This union resulted in the birth of two sons, Scott Jr. and Christien. In 2011, Susie came to Kansas after meeting Jerry Hoppe in Rainier, Oregon. They decided to start their lives together in Kansas. Susie’s time in Kansas included many years during which she worked in retail and relished the opportunity to interact with customers.
Cashier at Ray’s Apple Market was Susie’s previous position before leaving the workforce. She had a special fondness for the repeat clients who always made it a point to go through her checkout line. They gushed over her charming demeanor and infectious grin, and she made their day better. Ron, one of her frequent customers, made her day better, and she looked forward to having coffee with him at the Kettle. Susie cherished the time she got to spend with her three dogs, whose names were Derby, Sebastian, and Mia. She referred to them as her children.
