WEAVERVILLE – On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the age of 80, Steven Joseph Hillstrom passed away at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. He was surrounded by his wife and two children at the time of his passing. On February 25, 1942, Steve Hillstrom was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota to parents Vernon and Gladys Hillstrom (Christensen). Steve was just 4 weeks old when his father passed away suddenly, and the family moved to Minneapolis not long after. It was there that Steve would spend his childhood and eventually graduate from Roosevelt High School in 1960. From the time of their marriage in 1970 until the year 2017, Steve and his wife Suzanne (Madson) brought up their children in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

They moved to Weaverville, North Carolina, in 2018. In addition, during thesummer months, they traveled to Sherwood Forest, which is located in northern Minnesota. During the winter months, they traveled to Ancient Oaks, which is located in Okeechobee, Florida. Steve was well liked by a large number of people due to his charming personality, quiet but quick wit, and overall good nature. He enjoyed a wide range of activities, such as hisprofession (lithography and printing), as well as going camping, fishing, hunting, whitewater kayaking, and downhill skiing. On February 18, 2022, Joseph Kennedy Hillstrom, a.k.a. Ken, passed away quietly in his ninetieth year. He was the youngest of nine siblings and the last to die. Born and bred on a farm in northern Michigan, where he grew strong, he went on to live in six of the country’s main cities before settling in Houston. He worked as an Army sergeant, traveler, teacher, writer and novelist, college administrator, adjunct professor, and free lance writer-editor throughout his life, which he thoroughly liked. He was eternally grateful for a loving upbringing in a large family, good health, a Mensa mind, strong talent in both writing and music.

He accepted his death from the start, thanked his many family and friends for their vibrant company, and lamented only not being able to complete more tasks he wanted to accomplish to aid humanity .Joseph K.
