1. Steve Hammer Obituary, Of Texas – Death

My youngest brother, Steve Hammer, passed away at his home in San Antonio, Texas, yesterday of an unforeseen illness. It was with a heavy heart that I got this news.  Steve was a clever man who had a deep passion for a wide variety of people, activities, and pursuits. By the time he was in kindergarten, he had taught himself to read at a level equivalent to that of a college student. I consider him to be one of the most talented authors I’ve ever met. 2. Stephen Hammer Obituary, of Arlington – Death

Hammer was born in Arlington, Washington on October 4th, 1948 to parents Jim and Darleen Hammer. Steve spent his childhood in Arlington and received his high school diploma from Arlington High School in 1966. In addition to being an avid participant in football, basketball, and track, he enjoyed playing the trumpet in the school band. Because of his prowess on the athletic field, he was awarded a scholarship to attend Everett Community College, where he continued his study. After serving in the United States Army as a ski instructor in Alaska and being discharged with honor in 1972, Steve left military service on a high note.

Steve and Marty Tarbutton first became acquainted in Alaska, where they later tied the knot on August 28, 1971. After moving his family to Arlington in 1973, he took a job at his father’s lumber business in Granite Falls for a short period of time. Steve has spent the better part of three decades building his career in the forest products industry. For the first 42 years of their marriage, Steve and Marty made their home in Arlington, Virginia, where Steve also volunteered his time as a firefighter. They were blessed with four children during the course of their 50-year marriage. The Hammer family includes Stephen Hammer Jr., Missy (Kevin) Rork, Jason (Emmy) Hammer, and John (Kaety) Hammer, as well as eight grandchildren:  Read more
