Springfield IL woman killed in car accident at 11th and Stanford – Car Accident

A Springfield woman died in a single-vehicle crash at Bunn Park at 11th Street and Stanford Avenue early Saturday evening.

In a release, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said a 68-year-old woman was in a van that left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Allmon said, the woman, whose identity hasn’t been released yet, was pronounced dead at the scene around 8 p.m.

The identity is pending notification of next of kin, Allmon said.

A 5-year-old was an occupant in the van, said Springfield Police Lt. Derek Wheeler. The girl was conscious and breathing at the scene of the crash and was taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital for evaluation.

The child was later reunited with her family, Wheeler said.

It wasn’t immediately known where the child was seated in the van.

The accident is under investigation by Springfield Police, Springfield Park Police and the coroner’s office.
