Vin Scully Obituary, legendary Dodgers broadcaster: Vin Scully’s opening greeting is a tradition that has been passed down through generations of Dodgers fans, beginning with the Lost Generation and continuing all the way through Generation Z. Scully passed away on Tuesday at the age of 94. He was the beloved broadcaster of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball games for 67 seasons and the voice of the sport for residents of Southern California of all ages. In 1950, Scully began his career as a broadcaster for the Dodgers. He was the play-by-play announcer for the majority of Jackie Robinson’s career as well as the other Boys of Summer’s accomplishments. When Walter O’Malley moved the club west to Los Angeles in 1958, he followed the club from Brooklyn to California. First on radio and then later on television, he provided the background music for the exploits of Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale, Walter Alston and Tom Lasorda, Maury Wills and Kirk Gibson, Fernando Valenzuela and Orel Hershiser, Mike Piazza and Gary Sheffield, Adrián Beltré and Adrián González, Kenley Jansen and Clayton Kershaw. He was also the soundtrack for the exploits of Fernando Valenzuela and Orel He remained a part of the organization even after the O’Malleys sold the franchise to Fox, then Frank McCourt, and finally to the Guggenheim family, who are the current owners.
