1. Roy MacLaren Death Born in Auchterarder, Scotland, – Obituary

The news of the demise of Aston Villa’s former assistant manager Roy MacLaren, who passed away in Australia at the age of 92, has left the club’s fans in a state of mourning. During this trying time, everyone at the club is keeping Roy’s family and close friends in their thoughts and prayers. Roy was one of the unsung heroes during the most successful period in the club’s history, serving as Ron Saunders’ right-hand man when Villa were crowned First Division champions in 1981 and operating in the same role as Tony Barton led us to European Cup glory a year later. During this time, Roy was one of the unsung heroes who helped Villa win the European Cup.

MacLaren had a long and successful playing career as a goalkeeper. Between the years 1949 and 1965, he played over 200 games for St. Johnstone, Bury, and Sheffield Wednesday. MacLaren was born in Auchterarder, Scotland, in 1930. However, supporters of Aston Villa will always remember him as the reserved No. 2 player behind Saunders and Barton. In 1984, he left Villa after Barton was fired from his position as manager. During the 1982–1983 season, MacLaren’s son Bruce, who was also a goalkeeper, spent some time on loan with Villa from Oldbury United. His time with Villa was brief. May you ever find rest, Roy.
