1. Romay van Rooyen Obituary, Facebook Tribute – Death

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Western Cape has expressed shock at the murder of a Cape Town Magistrate. The body of Romay van Rooyen was found in her home at Marina Da Gama near Muizenberg by a family member. No one has yet been arrested in connection with the murder. NPA spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, says they are deeply saddened by the former prosecutor’s death. Ntabazalila says her death is a loss to the judiciary and the justice system.  Read more

 

2. Adrianus Willem VanRooyen Obituary, of Cambrian Cres  – Death

On Thursday, April 22, 2004, Mr. Adrianus (Adrian) Zegert Willem VanRooyen, age 64, of Cambrian Cres., passed away suddenly shortly after arriving at the hospital. It was on December 3, 1939 that he was born in Harmelen, Holland. In 1948, he and his family emigrated to Canada and lived in St. Catharines, Ontario. At the age of 19, he started working for the Ministry of Natural Resources, which led to his relocation to the northwestern region of Ontario. After that, he worked throughout the Northwest as a Forest Ranger and a Conservation Officer. He retired as the Senior Land Technician in June of 1993 after serving as the Assistant Superintendent of both Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and Quetico Provincial Park before his retirement.

Following what he called his “formal retirement,” he went on to work for both Home Hardware and the Boy Scouts of North America. Adrian had a deep devotion to the life of the community and was active in a variety of organizations and endeavors, including serving as the past president of the Lion’s Club in Atikokan, serving on the board of the Library, and being a board member of both the Economic Development Center and the Barrier Free Committee. In the past two years, Adrian has found great pride and a great deal of enjoyment in caring for his and Sonja’s bed and breakfast as well as in their extended travels. He has expressed his creativity through a variety of indoor and outdoor pastimes, such as gardening and sketching.  Read more
