1. Rienheart Asuncion Death, Homicide – Obituary
The guy who was tragically shot on Sunday afternoon in what appears to have been a case of road rage was revealed as a newlywed by the sheriff’s office on Tuesday. The man had been talking to his wife on the phone seconds before he was shot and killed, the sheriff’s office said. There have been no reported arrests in connection with the killing of 30-year-old Rienheart Asuncion. The identification of him was made official by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday. At around 4:27 p.m. on Sunday, Asuncion, who resided in San Lorenzo and worked as an installer at the Tesla facility in Fremont, was shot at the junction of Lewelling and Hesperian boulevards. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Asuncion, who had just recently been married, was reportedly in his vehicle and had been chatting on the phone to his wife in the Philippines when he got into a dispute with the occupants of another vehicle, according to Lieutenant Ray Kelly of the Sheriff’s Department. Asuncion seems to have gotten out of his car with the intention of confronting the other individuals, but he was killed before the others could get away. Kelly stated that a sheriff’s sergeant who was in the area conducting a follow-up investigation on a carjacking was in the vicinity at the time of the incident and ran to help Asuncion, but he was pronounced dead at the spot.
