1. Peggy Baker Death – Obituary
I was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Peggy Baker. I first met her and her husband Carl, while taking this picture for the cover of the October 2015 issue. Since then, while out riding my bike, I would sometimes, stop and chat with Peggy as she sat on her front porch. Peggy would give me the lowdown on how the year’s pumpkin crop was coming along. She will be missed! Source
2. Kathleen Baker Death – Obituary
My mother, Kathleen Baker, had two careers: the first was as a marriage guidance counsellor, and the second was as a scriptwriter for three very popular television programs that aired in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s: Crown Court, Brookside, and Emmerdale. My mother passed away at the age of 87. She was the daughter of Jessie (née Hilton), who worked as a nurse auxiliary, and Percy Potter, who was an engineer. She was born in Oldham, and she has always had a strong connection to her northern heritage. Middleton Grammar School in Oldham was her first stop, followed by Luton Girls’ High School in Bedfordshire. Her family had relocated to Luton when she was 12 years old, and she completed both schools.
After I was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1950, my parents moved to Sale, Manchester in 1960. There, Roselyn, Vikki, and our brother, Fenton, were all born at home during this time. Olivia was born five years later, after the couple had moved to a run-down and ramshackle house in Hale, Cheshire, and had lived there for five years. It was in this residence that Kathleen passed away a few years later. In 1975, she started her career as a counselor after completing her training with the Marriage Guidance Council, which is now known as Relate. Kathleen made the decision to join him in the television industry in the late 1970s. At the time, Howard was employed by Granada TV and worked on Coronation Street during the show’s initial live transmission. She began writing screenplays for Crown Court (1978–1984) Read More
