Patti Lou Chilton Purgason, who was a resident of Bethania, North Carolina, passed away at Brighton Gardens on Thursday, September 15, 2022. Patti was born on a tobacco farm near Ararat, North Carolina, on July 13, 1930. Her parents, Howard Chilton and Evelyn Key Chilton, both passed away before she was born. She attended the Pine Hill (Friends) Church regularly throughout her life. Her passion for antiques led her to become a collector as well as a dealer in the field. Her first husband, Swanson R. Simmons, and her sister, Nancy Robertson, both passed away before her. Her parents were the first members of her family to pass away.
Those who are left behind to honor and cherish her memory are her devoted husband, G. Wayne Purgason; her son, Johnny G. Simmons (Judy); her daughter, Joy Simmons Tuttle; a stepdaughter, Michelle Ferry; three grandchildren: Grant Simmons, Valerie Bruner (Scott), and Shawn B. Inman (Courtney); six great-grandchildren: Kayla Beth Hutson (Silas), Wes Bruner, Allie Bullington ( On Monday, September 19, 2022, the family will be present at Slate Funeral Home to greet friends and loved ones beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing until 1:45 p.m. The funeral services will start at two in the afternoon, and Pastor Michael Thames will preside over them. On August 11, 2022, Todd Chilton, age 48, from Irving, passed away and went to his heavenly home. On August 15, 1973, in Bitburg, West Germany, Todd was born into a family with a long history of service in the United States Air Force. His parents were Thomas Allan Chilton and Jean (Harrington) Chilton. He traveled extensively before his father settled down in Texas after retiring. He received his diploma from Weatherford High School in 1991 and then went on to receive his diploma from Stephen F. Austin University, which is when he met the woman who would become the love of his life, Cindy. During his time at Stephen F. Austin, he was an active participant in the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.
Over the course of the previous twelve years, he was employed by J.P. Morgan as a finance manager. The only things more important to Todd than his love for the Steelers were his love for the Lord and his family. Todd was a tremendous fan of the Steelers. He attended Irving Bible Church regularly for a good number of years. He was known as a true grill expert by his family, and Todd’s hobbies were going to the movies and preparing meals for his loved ones in the kitchen. He will be remembered by many people as the kindest and most loving of husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, uncles, and grandsons, as well as friends.
