1. Neil A. Mason Obituary, of Calamus, Iowa – Death

Neil Mason was born on March 3, 1957, in the town of DeWitt, Iowa, to his parents, Arnold and Grace (Bronner). He received his high school diploma from Calamus in 1975 and went on to study at Muscatine Community College. After some time had passed, he went back to the Calamus region to work alongside his father and uncle on the family farm. On October 4, 1986, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Iowa, Neil and Jane Ryan were joined together in the sacrament of marriage. The couple made their home on the farm the family owned on the outskirts of Calamus. In addition to farming, he spent more than 25 years working in crop insurance and recently retired from his position as manager of P&K Midwest in DeWitt.

Neil was extremely pleased that he had been able to bring up his family and continue to work on the same farm where he had spent his childhood. Neil was an avid golfer at Wapsi Oaks, and Wednesdays were his favorite day to play there. He passed on his passion for the game to all of his children. Baseball was very important to Neil, and he especially enjoyed coaching his son Ryan at Calamus Wheatland and rooting for the Chicago Cubs. Over the course of more than three decades, he spent many autumns Saturdays at Kinnick Stadium cheering on the Hawkeyes and tailgating with his friends. There were a few things that Neil would say “no” to, including a game of slow-pitch softball, a karaoke microphone, or a cold beer (s). Full Obituary
