Michael O’Conno Obituary: Michael O’Connor, who held the record for being the oldest living person in Ireland, passed away yesterday at the age of 108. The Kerry native passed away this morning at Kenmare Community Hospital, which is located in his home county of Kerry. Mr. O’ Connor was born in 1913 in Glencar, which is located in south Kerry. He would have celebrated his 109th birthday in October had he lived. RTE News was informed by a friend of the family that Mr. O’Connor had been in “rude good health” up until very recently at his residence in Muckross. This information was provided after the death of Mr. O’Connor was confirmed. In February of 2021, photographs were taken of Mr. O’Connor at the Deenagh Medical Practice in Killarney, Ireland, showing two thumbs up to the doctors as they administered the Pfizer vaccine to him. He had survived the Spanish flu pandemic that occurred more than a century earlier, making him the oldest man in Ireland. As a result, he was not surprised by the events that transpired in the years that followed the pandemic. When Mr. O’Connor, then only six years old, was diagnosed with Spanish flu, doctors didn’t expect him to survive. The native of Kerry recalled how his mother passed away from the virus while he defied the odds and survived. During a previous interview, he stated the following to the reporter Brian O’Connell on the show Today With Claire Byrne on RTE Radio 1: “We had no particular name for it, it was just flu.
