The victim of a double shooting that occurred over the holiday weekend has been identified as a man from Newport News, Virginia, who is 21 years old. Around 2:20 in the morning on Saturday, Messiah Jarvis Martin was one of two people who were shot. located on Aqueduct Drive around the 13000 block The young man, aged 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim sustained injuries that were considered to be life-threatening and was taken to a nearby hospital. Jake D. Jarvis, Sr., who was 87 years old, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, in the comfort of his own home. Mr. Jarvis is survived by his wife, Mable Jarvis; two children, Jake Jarvis, Jr. (married to Brenda), and Vicki Wilcox (married to John); one brother-in-law, Bill Hatley; three grandchildren, Heather (Wade) Goggin, Ricki (Derek) Oliver, and Sarah Wilcox; two great-grandchildren, Hayden Oliver and Isabel Grace Oliver; and a special friend, Ethel Gary. On Thursday, January 27, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., funeral services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel. The Reverend Charles Duncan and the Reverend Tom Green will preside over the ceremony.
The subsequent burial will take place at Goodwater Cemetery in Goodwater, Alabama at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Lenny Bolton officiating the ceremony. Bill James, Derek Oliver, Wade Goggin, Lance Bolding, Richard Girdner, and David Hendrix will take on the role of pallbearers at the funeral service. Friends will be able to pay their respects to the family beginning one hour before the service. During his time of illness, the family would like to express their gratitude to Southern Care Hospice for all of the love and care that they provided, as well as to Dr. John Hagler. In honor of Jake, memorial contributions can be given to the Wares Ferry Road Baptist Church. Source
