1. Maurice Burkley Obituary, of Maywood – Death
On Interstate 55 in Will County, a collision between a Maywood man’s Toyota Camry and a semitrailer that was stopped resulted in the death of the Maywood man. Troopers from the Illinois State Police responded to a crash on Interstate 55 around milepost 252 at 2:21 a.m. on Wednesday. This location is south of Route 52 and is in the general vicinity of Shorewood and Joliet. The Will County Coroner’s Office was able to positively identify the deceased driver of the Toyota Camry as Maywood resident Maurice Burkley, 52 years old. Burkley was the vehicle’s driver. At 3:40 in the morning, medical personnel at the scene of the collision pronounced Burkley deceased.
The accident caused the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 to be closed for a period of five hours. Around 6:10 in the morning on Wednesday, all lanes were made available again. According to the authorities, Burkley’s Toyota Camry and a semitrailer were moving southbound on Interstate 55 just prior to the collision. Yu Fan, aged 36 and from Chino Hills in California, was the driver of the semi-trailer. According to the police, the tractor trailer came to a stop on the roadway because there were intermittent closures due to work. Kathleen H. (Barry) Burkley, who was 72 years old and from Greensburg, passed away at home on October 19, 2020. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 19, 1948. Her parents, John J. Barry, Jr. and Virginia McCune Barry, both passed away before her birth. When Kathy worked at the Humane Society of Westmoreland County, she served as the organization’s Executive Director. Anyone who knew Kathy well is aware that rescuing and saving animals was Kathy’s lifelong passion, in addition to the fact that she was the organization’s first and only Executive Director. In addition to that, Kathy served as a councilwoman for the city of Greensburg and as a director on the Greensburg Salem School Board.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Martha Britcher. Her parents and sister both passed away before she did. She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Kenneth B. Burkley; four children, Karly Vesely (Jon), Kirk Burkley (Penny Zacharias), Kimberly Debes (John), and Keri Mace (Dylan), all of Greensburg; eleven grandchildren, Novalie and Scarlett Vesely, Virginia and Pearse Burkley, Gabriel, Benjamin, Sylvia, Finn, and Hazel Debes; a On Wednesday, a celebration of Kathy’s life will take place from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clement L.
