Matthew Ray Martin Obituary: Matt was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Steven Woods, and stepbrother Monte Newton. Survivors: Wife, Connie Banks Martin. Children, Crystal Martin Cibele and husband Rob, Christopher Riley Martin and wife Danielle, Shannon McTaggart and partner Eric Lopez, and Jonathan McTaggart. Grandchildren, Cadence Cibele, Kolbi Martin, Beckett Martin, Aiden Lopez, Ethyn Lopez, Haylee McTaggart, and another baby Martin on the way. Siblings, Mike Martin and wife Phyllis, and Cindy Woods. Stepmother, Marita Martin. Stepsiblings, D’onna Winn and husband Michael and Grady Newton and wife Dena. In-laws, Nicole Banks Parker and husband Jordan and Randy Carr and wife Lynn. Matthew Ray Martin’s parents, Riley Carroll Martin and Mary Rae Weaver Martin, gave birth to him on December 12th, 1957 in the city of Dallas, Texas. After completing his high school education at South Grand Prairie in 1975, he went on to have a prosperous career in the roofing industry, working for the R.S. Frazier Roofing Company in Arlington for the past 33 years. On June 30, 1987, Matt wed the woman who would become the love of his life, Connie Lee Banks. His children and grandchildren brought him the greatest happiness. He was the consummate sports parent and was always there to cheer on his children, as he was a huge fan of baseball and softball. Crystal, the father’s daughter, played softball at Texas A&M University, where she was awarded a softball scholarship and named an All-Big 12 Conference short stop. After pitching for the Arlington High School Colts, his son Christopher went on to become a relief pitcher in the minor league for the Boston Red Sox, and then in the big league for the Colorado Rockies, the New York Yankees, the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters (in Japan), the Texas Rangers, and the Atlanta Braves, and he is currently with the Chicago Cubs. Christopher also pitched in the minor league for the Boston Red Sox. One of the most memorable events in Matt’s life was when he was able to witness his son Chris’s championship run with the Braves in 2021. Full Obituary
Matthew William “Matt” Martin Obituary: “Matt” spent his childhood in Lakeview, Michigan, and received his high school diploma from Lakeview High School in the year 1973. He was a young man who worked hard at everything he did. When he was a kid, he used to get up early every morning to milk cows and then deliver the milk to the neighborhood creamery to sell. When he was a teenager, he got involved in the racing of Quarter Horses. Matt won the state title in the barrel racing competition in Michigan. As a jockey, he rode his horse, “Folly’s Honey,” to multiple victories in AQHA competitions, both at the state and the national level. While attending Lakeview High School, Matt was a member of the Marching Band and played the drums. He was an excellent water skier and snow skier. In addition, Matt was extremely enthusiastic about muscle cars. When Matt was a freshman in high school, he began his career in Dental Laboratory Technology by working in the private practice of a dentist named James V. Draper in Lakeview, Michigan. Dr. Draper was Matt’s mentor. After completing his high school education at Lakeview, Matt went to work for Knight Dental Studio in Oldsmar, Florida. It was there that he earned his Certified Dental Technician designation in the field of crown and bridge work in the year 1976. In 1983, Matt moved his family to the Triad area and opened Triad Dental Studio, which is now based out of Greensboro in the state of North Carolina. At Triad Dental Studio, Matt attained the level of prominence that made him an icon in the dental industry. In the year 1998, Matt was introduced to Martha, and after their first date, he realized that she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Martha was able to locate a position for herself very quickly within the fast-paced dental laboratory industry. They worked together to construct a facility that was state of the art and focused on providing high-quality dental restorations. As a result, they quickly gained recognition on a national level.
