1. Matthew Lavin Death, Of Cherrybrook – Obituary

Matthew Lavin, 23, was discovered tragically at the base of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, near Llangollen, less than ten miles south-east of Wrexham, after two young people spotted a sports bottle on the path as they walked over the 200-foot high structure over the River Dee, spotting a man’s body on the riverbank below the aqueduct. Lavin was found at the base of the aqueduct after two youngsters The student, who lived on Cherrybrook Drive in Winstanley, was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene that evening after they notified a passerby who then called the police. Today, September 20, the senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, John Gittins, launched an inquest into the death of a 23-year-old man at County Hall in Ruthin.

The inquest will look into the circumstances surrounding the man’s passing. During the hearing, it was revealed that Mr. Lavin’s body was discovered in a terrible manner on September 14th, and that his identity was established at the scene by police officers using his driver’s license. The court was informed by the pathologist Dr. Mohammad Mehdi that the provisional cause of death given by the post-mortem examination was multiple injuries, including a fractured spine, consistent with a fall from the aqueduct. In addition, the court was informed that the cause of death was consistent with a fall from the aqueduct. The inquest has been postponed until a complete hearing can be held; a date has been scheduled for the hearing.  Read more

2. James William Lavin Death, of New Orleans – Obituary

On January 15, 2021, James William Lavin Jr. “Coach,” who was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, but later settled in River Ridge, Louisiana, passed away at the age of 86. “Coach” was known by his nickname. His parents, the late James Lavin, Sr. and Gladys Hammant Lavin, welcomed him into the world on November 3, 1934. James and his siblings, Peggy Lavin Schaeffer and the late Charles Lavin, all spent their childhood in New Orleans, where James also received his high school education at Warren Easton. At Louisiana State University, where he also competed in football and track and field and was one of the first Chinese Bandits to play under Coach Dietzel, he obtained a Bachelor of Education degree.

In New Orleans, after a career in professional football with the Dallas Texans and time spent serving in the United States Army, he became acquainted with Juanita McDermott. They tied the knot in August of 1963 in her hometown of Dubuque, which is located in Iowa. After that, he pursued his love of learning by receiving three Master’s degrees; the first was from the University of Iowa, and after that, he went back to his hometown of New Orleans and received the other two from Loyola University. As a teacher and coach for more than 40 years, he had a significant and long-lasting influence on the lives of a great number of people.
