2. Restaurateur Peter Langan Death – Obituary

According to the St. Andrews Hospital at Billericay, Peter Langan, a flamboyant restaurateur who had been unconscious since being burned in a fire at his home in October, passed away on Wednesday night. He was 47. Langan, who was born in Ireland and owned a restaurant called Langan’s Brasserie in London’s West End, was a co-owner of the firm together with actor Michael Caine and chef Richard Shepherd. He was also the owner of a restaurant in the city of Los Angeles. After what the police have described as a “severe domestic confrontation” with his wife, Susan, 46, Langan’s home in Alphamstone, which is located 50 miles northeast of London, caught fire at 4 a.m. on October 21.

Langan was injured in the fire. It was reported at the time that Mrs. Langan, who had broken her ankle jumping from a balcony, had informed Mr. Langan that she desired to part ways with him. Shepherd stated at the time that an oil heater that was located in a bedroom was responsible for accidently starting the fire. After an argument with Mrs. Langan, the British domestic news agency Press Association reported on Wednesday that investigators suspect Langan may have caused the fire on purpose. Langan, a former heavy drinker who readily admitted to his drinking problem, is best remembered at Langan’s Brasserie for his antics, which included crawling across the floor and biting the ankles of customers and putting out a fire in the kitchen with vintage champagne.
