Marion Barber III Obituary, Harrisburg, PA: Marion Barber III played running back for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears during his professional football career. Barber passed away on June 1, 2022, at the age of 38 in the comfort of his home in Frisco, Texas. Barber was the brother of Houston Texans safety Dominique Barber and the son of New York Jets running back Marion Barber Jr. Barber also played for the New York Jets. After graduating from high school, he went on to play college football for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, for whom he was selected All-Big Ten in 2003. After completing his junior year of college, Barber participated in the 2005 NFL Draft and was ultimately selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the draft. His selection to the Pro Bowl in 2007 led to the coining of the nickname “Marion the Barbarian.” Barber made the move to the Bears in 2011 and only played for them for one season before hanging up his cleats in 2012. Marion O. Barber, 85, of Mint Hill, North Carolina: Marion O. Barber, age 85, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Carrington Place in Matthews, North Carolina. Marion O. Barber was a resident of Mint Hill, North Carolina. Marion Barber was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, on June 22, 1931. Her parents, James and Fayetta Barber, both passed away before her birth. He is survived by Ruby Hollars Barber, the woman he has been married to for the past 63 years; son Mark Barber of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; daughter Susan Barber of Charlotte; sister Iris Biddy of Kings Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Barber attended Grover High School as well as Evans College of Commerce and graduated with a business degree. He started his career at McLean Trucking Company and then moved on to Spartan Trucking, where he worked for another 20 years before retiring. It was always fun for him to watch his children compete in sports, and he also enjoyed spending time with his family and occasionally coaching. Marion’s two favorite sports teams were the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Panthers. Full Obituary
Herbert Marion Barber Sr., Obituary, Blackshear: After a protracted battle with illness, Herbert Marion Barber Sr., age 80, of Blackshear, Washington, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Harborview-Pierce County. He was the son of the late Hamon Barber and Polly Meadows, who passed away before his birth on February 13, 1940 in Pierce County. He was a veteran, having served in Germany as a missile crewman for the United States Army between the years of 1960 and 1962. In 2005, he took his retirement from the position of Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Blackshear. Prior to that, he had served as the Fire Chief for the City of Blackshear, and he and his wife, Lynn, had run a prosperous catering business for the previous 19 years. Full Obituary
