He was the son of the late Charles Walter Lance and the late Anna Mae (Delaney) Lance, both of whom passed away before he was born in Philadelphia. Walt was the husband of Mary (Wills) Lance, and in September of this past year, the couple celebrated 61 years of marriage together as a married couple. He attended North Catholic High School, and he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Walt got his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from La Salle University and his Master of Science in Accounting from Temple University while working full time and going to school at night. Both degrees were earned in the field of accounting.
The majority of his professional life was spent at N.W. Ayer, an advertising agency that was established in Philadelphia but later moved its headquarters to New York City. There, he held the position of Senior Vice President-Controller and was also a member of the Advertising Board. Walt frequently discussed his journey into and out of New York City, as well as the many people he made friends with along the way. Walt was ordained as a Permanent Deacon in 1993 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.
