1. Kari Kokko Death, of Kitchener, CA – Obituary

A significant portion of the KW community, including but not limited to her immediate family (mother Maggie French, father John Kokko (Sue Andersen), and brother Dana), will mourn Kari in ways that cannot be adequately expressed (Carmen). Kari maintained very tight relationships not just with her extended family on the French and Hibbard sides, but also with her extended family on the Kokko side. All of them are currently in a state of mourning.

Kari was a woman who possessed an impressively high level of intelligence, as well as vivacity, talent, compassion, extrovertism, and dogged determination. The English language simply does not have sufficient adverbs or adjectives to adequately describe her. She had a bachelor’s degree in theater, a master’s degree in music, and a master’s degree in social work, and she volunteered her time tirelessly in an effort to make the community a more caring, inclusive, and loving place.  Read More


2. Richard “Rick” Dean Kari Death, born in Superior, Wisconsin – Obituary

On Friday, April 5, 2019, at the age of 65, Richard “Rick” Dean Kari died away at Carolina Caring in Newton. He was the youngest of three boys and was born on November 1, 1953, in Superior, Wisconsin. His parents, Reino “Ray” Kari and Eva (Kokko) Kari, both passed away before his birth. In Rick’s younger years, his family made the transition from the severe winters to the warm climate of Venice, Florida. After that, in 1968, they moved to Franklin, North Carolina, where Rick attended high school and was active in the school’s marching band and theater programs.

Working for Ingles grocery stores and Anheuser, he traveled about Western North Carolina before finally settling down in Hickory, North Carolina, which would become his permanent residence. He started his prosperous 31-year career with Frito-Lay in 1987, and during that time he was honored with a number of prestigious accolades, including “Salesperson of the Year” for a number of consecutive years. Rick was exceptionally proud of all of his automobiles, work trucks, motorcycles, boats, and jet skis, and he took excellent care of them all. Read More
