John Ballard, who started OK Bikes 4 Kids, died on Tuesday. John Ballard may have died from cancer, but his family and the thousands of people he helped over the years said he was still a winner. David Ballard, John’s son, said, “You could be having the worst day and he would still get you going. “Ballard thinks about his father, John, who was known as the “Bike Guy” by many. The person who started a charity that fixes bikes and gives them to kids for free.
“He always said that when people are going through hard times, it’s important to know that someone cares, and he said that for a child, that could be all they need. He always said that this is how you plant seeds,” said Ballard. Ballard worked on bikes out of his home for more than 20 years with the goal of making other people happy. In 2013, when a deadly tornado hit Moore, he was there for the very young people who were hurt. His desire to give back didn’t stop in Oklahoma. click here
