Joey Jordison Obituary: Slipknot is a heavy metal band that originated in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995. They are well known for the grotesque masks they wear, which are inspired by horror movies, as well as their extremely aggressive style of playing heavy metal. Joey Jordison, the drummer for the band, passed away recently at the age of 46. He had joined the band back when it was still called the Pale Ones, after being invited to attend rehearsals by Paul Gray, the bass player for the band. Slipknot was originally going to be the name of the band, but Jordison suggested changing it to reflect their song of the same name. Through four platinum-selling studio albums and the in-concert recording 9.0: Live, Slipknot established themselves as one of the preeminent exponents of what was dubbed nu-metal. Jordison remained with the band throughout this time and helped them achieve this status (2005). The band’s following, on the other hand, was taken aback when it was revealed on their website in December 2013 that Jordison had left for reasons related to his personal life. Full Obituary
