An individual who served as a longstanding representative of Armstrong, Indiana, and Butler County has recently died away. According to a message that was made on Facebook this morning by Pyle’s daughter Lauren, the former state lawmaker Jeff Pyle lost his fight with cancer late yesterday evening and passed away. In November of 2004, Pyle was elected to serve as the state representative for the 60th Legislative District. Pyle continued to serve even though he was undergoing treatment for cancer and was eventually successful in beating the disease, but it recurred in his chest in October of 2017.
The following year, in 2020, he had a stroke, which finally led to his retirement the following year, in March of 2021. During his time as a state lawmaker, Pyle presided over the House Gaming Oversight Committee, served as the 10-year leader of the Second Amendment Caucus and the Coal Caucus, and chaired the House Gaming Oversight Committee. In addition, he was the author of legislation that included provisions regarding emergency personnel in operating underground mines, as well as legislation that regulated unmanned aircraft for safety and privacy, and legislation that provided veterans with a special designation on their driver’s licenses. You have an asthma attack in the middle of the night, and you end up spending a week in the hospital because of it? Do you need assistance in moving? Need a ride at two in the morning? Do you require an ear to bend when the burden of the world becomes too much? Indeed, he was present.
In whatever he did, from benjo ditches in Taiwan to motocross and even extending to his relationships, sense of humor, morals, and beliefs, he was an adventurous person who was never one to go with the grain. Although I don’t believe he did it on purpose or with any particular effort, the lives of people who were close to him were profoundly impacted as a result. He was a strict but loving father who imparted a great deal of wisdom to his two sons throughout the course of their existence. He instilled in us the importance of tenacity and motivated us to achieve and realize more of our potential than he ever could have imagined. Read More
