He was one of six children and spent his childhood in the countryside of Washington and Dalton. He started his educational career in Pittsfield at St. Mary’s, where he remained until he graduated from Pittsfield High School. At the Kelly Lumber operations in Pittsfield, he and his brother Don worked for their father, John, who was the owner of the business. It is estimated that 85% of Kelly Lumber’s dry-kilned and polished premium furniture-grade hardwoods are sent out of the country.
JW quit school when he was 17 years old and joined the Seabees, a division of the United States Navy, during the Korean War. During his time with the Seabees, he was involved in a wide variety of construction projects on a number of islands in the Pacific, the most notable of which were Midway Island and the Philippines. After serving in the Navy for some time, he came home and resumed his previous job as a Timber Cruiser for his father’s company. Read more

Lyn has the ability to find happiness in any given circumstance. She made her way through life by laughing and dancing her way through it. Her close friends and family were always aware of her boundless compassion and insatiable desire to assist those in need. Her deep passion for children and dedication to her job made this abundantly clear.
Lyn spent the last 10 years of her career as the principal of the lower school at Kenner Discovery. Lyn was adamant that the education of young minds should be a joyful experience, and she went out of her way to ensure that her classroom was filled with happiness, laughter, and generosity. Her three grandkids, who fondly refer to her as “Mimi,” will be the ones who will miss her the most because of the fun-loving educational teachings she provided. Read more
