1. Jack Shea Obituary, Pittsburgh union leader – Death
When Jack Shea was president of the Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council for close to two decades, he was the face of the organization. He was the one who spoke at labor rallies and supported strikers while they were on the picket line. On Monday, August 29, 2022, Shea passed away. He was 79. Rich Fitzgerald, the executive of Allegheny County, referred to Shea as a “giant” during his tenure as a longtime labor leader. Shea assumed the role of president of the county labor council in 1998, and he continued serving in that capacity as president of what later became the Allegheny-Fayette Counties Labor Council until his retirement in 2017. Shea passed away in 2017.
Shea began his working life in 1967 by serving on a union organizing committee at the place where he was employed. Shea rose through the ranks of the union to become its president after the employees of the plant joined it in 1974. He later became a representative for the International Union of Electrical Workers. Later on, he was promoted to the position of organizing director for the IUE/13-state CWA’s district, which encompassed all of the states along the eastern seaboard, from Pennsylvania to Florida.
