DNA evidence, according to Georgia and federal authorities, has positively identified a truck driver who passed away as the individual who murdered a young woman in the state’s far northwest region in 1988. Officials stated during a news conference that genetic genealogy led to Henry Fredrick “Hoss” Wise as the perpetrator of the murder of Stacey Lyn Chahorski. The news conference took place on Tuesday at the offices of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in a suburb of Atlanta. “The FBI and our entire Georgia law enforcement community will never give up, and we will use every advance in technology to achieve justice for you and your family,” said Keri Farley, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Atlanta office.

“We will use every advance in technology to achieve justice for you and your family,” she added. Farley stated that genealogy DNA proved that Henry ‘Hoss’ Wise was responsible for the death of Stacey Chahorski. After being discovered in March along Interstate 59 close to Rising Fawn, Georgia, the remains of Chahorski himself were not recognized as belonging to him until March. It was the first known instance, according to Farley, in which the technique was used to identify both a victim and a perpetrator in the same case. Both she and the perpetrator were identified using genetic genealogy. Read more
