With over 50 years in the fire service and retiring from the City of Fort Oglethorpe, Harrell continued to work part-time for CCFD. Even after all of these years, Harrell still responded emergency traffic to answer the many calls for help from our citizens. You will be missed Harrell. On Friday, April 12, 2019, Murray D. Harrell, a resident of Wesley Place who had reached the age of 93, passed away. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019, at the chapel of Glover Funeral Home. Chaplain Eddie Biss will preside over the ceremony. After the funeral, burial will take place at the Big Creek United Methodist cemetery under the direction of Kendall Glover. On Monday, before to the start of the service, the family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends beginning at one in the afternoon and continuing until one forty-five minutes after that. The family will also spend some time at the residence of his sister, Peggy Halstead, which is located at 511 Owens Street in Dothan.

Harrell was born in Cottonwood, Alabama on April 17, 1925. His parents were Hurley D. and Sadie McKay Harrell. He worked the land all his life and had lived in Houston County his whole life. The Big Creek United Methodist Church welcomed Murray as a member during his time there. His parents, a sister named Nayo Smith, and two brothers named Russell Harrell and James Morris Harrell all passed away before he did. Read more
