His maternal grandparents Edgar and Ethel Nelson and paternal grandparents Sherman and Mayme Brown, as well as his mother Ruth Ellen Nelson and his father-in-law Gene Crain, all passed away before he was born. Greg is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marlene, and their three children: son Raymond (wife Ashley and their two sons Myles Ray and Ronan Gene), son Bryan, and daughter Meagan; his father Joe Nelson; sister Kathleen Williams (husband Danny, daughter Sarah Williams, and baby Nora); brothers David Nelson (wife Angie, their two sons Andrew and Matt and their spouses), and Kerry Nelson; and his mother-in-law, Mary Nelson. Greg passed away on April 1, 2019. (wife Leslie and daughter Chloe).
Greg was also blessed with a large number of aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. His friend count was through the roof. spent his childhood in Marionville, Missouri, and attended high school there, where he excelled in every sport in which he participated, including baseball, football, basketball, and track & field. 1978 was the year that his American Legion squad won the state championship, an accomplishment of which he was immensely pleased. Later on, Greg received a football scholarship to attend William Jewel College, and after sustaining an injury during his freshman year, he finished out his undergraduate career playing baseball at Southwest Baptist University and College of the Ozarks. 2. Jimmie V. McCord Obituary, Born in Corpus Christi, TX – Death
He was technically the second youngest of the three boys, falling between his older brother Truman Jr. and his identical twin brother Jerry. In 1952, he received his diploma from W.B. Ray High School, where he was a standout on the basketball team and was chosen by his peers as the most well-liked student in the class both during his junior and senior years. After that, he began his collegiate basketball career at Texas Christian University as a freshman.
There, he made the acquaintance of his future wife, Lu. They spent two years in Misawa, Japan, where their oldest son was born on the military installation they were stationed at. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he went back to Corpus Christi to work in the family bookstore, which is known as Del Mar Bookstore. The McCord family relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1961, which is when Mr. McCord started working as a Security Agent for Sears, Roebuck, and Company. Read more
