Gonzalo Portillo, 28, was murdered, according to authorities, after a white Ford F-150 pickup truck collided with another vehicle, rendering both vehicles disabled. The collision occurred at the intersection of California Avenue and Redwood Road at 10 p.m. on Friday.

First responders attempted to remove Portillo to provide medical assistance, but he died from his injuries at the site, according to police. Witnesses witnessed the truck driver flee the scene, according to Salt Lake City Police. Officers scoured the area but were unable to locate anyone who matched the description of the driver.

Authorities have said that they are no longer searching for the truck driver’s identity, that no arrests have been made, and that the investigation is still ongoing.
