1. Giles Radice Obituary, former Labour politician – Death
After hearing that former Labour politician Giles Radice had passed away at the age of 85, Keir Starmer has expressed his condolences and paid his respects. The leader of the party lauded the peer and former member of parliament as an “unrivalled social democratic thinker” as well as a “wise and kind man.” Between 1973 and 2001, Radice served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for a combined total of eight different terms, during which time he was elected to represent the now-defunct Chester-le-Street constituency as well as North Durham.
His career in the House of Commons spanned nearly three decades. In 2001, he was given a position in the House of Lords, which he held until the year 2022, when he finally retired. During his time in parliament, he served as Labour’s shadow education secretary in the 1980s and later chaired the Treasury committee from 1997 to 2001. He entered parliament as a member of Labour’s frontbench. He was also the author of political books and pamphlets, and Pat McFadden, the shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, praised him for his “beautiful and hugely informative” writing. Full Tribute
