2. Gerald Samuel Hoekstra Obituary, Born in in Renton, Washington – Death

Gerald Samuel Hoekstra (Jerry), age 74, of Bellevue, Nebraska, formerly of Placerville, California, passed away on December 31, 2021 at his home in Bellevue, Nebraska. He had been battling ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, since 2015. Gerald Samuel Hoekstra (Jerry) was a former resident of Placerville, California. Jerry Hoekstra was conceived by his father, Gerard, and his mother, Hattie (Santjer), on February 23, 1947 in Renton, Washington. He attended schools in Washington and California. Both his Associate of Science degree and his Master of Theology degree came from Christian Life School of Theology, which is located in Cupertino, California.

He attended De Anza College. Prior to being sent to Vietnam, Jerry held the position of communications specialist and taught at the Radio Signal School at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey while serving in the United States Army. He attained the level of SP5 E5 during his time in the military. In April of 1971, he was given an honorable discharge from the military. After that, he pursued a career in the field of defense electronics, working as an electronics engineer. Between the years 1968 and 1974, he was married to Twila Mae Hurd. After that, in 1976, he wed Carol Claudia Noble, and the couple has been happily married for the past 45 years.

Jerry attended a number of churches, where he was active in the ministry as a Royal Ranger Teacher, an Adult Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Church Board. At one time in his life, he was a member of the SCCA circuit and raced a Camaro race car that he had built himself. He was an avid fan of auto racing, going on vacation (particularly to Hawaii, Lake Tahoe, and Carmel, California), gardening, tinkering with vehicles, attending get-togethers with his family and friends, and traveling.
