The illustrious wrestling coach and Athletics Hall of Famer Gary Taylor passed away recently, and the Rider University Athletics Community is in mourning over his passing. He was 73. During his time at Rider, Taylor amassed an impressive 442 dual victories, which placed him third all-time in Division I at the time of his retirement. He also won 14 conference championships and guided 15 individual wrestlers to a combined total of 17 All-America awards.

John Hangey, the current head coach at Rider wrestling, wrestled for and was coached by Gary Taylor while he was at Rider. Hangey remarked, “We are extremely grieved by the departure of Coach Gary Taylor.” “He was a legend at Rider, a giant in the world of wrestling, a unique individual who shaped young men, and most importantly, he was a wonderful father and husband. 2. Gary Taylor Death, of Eureka – Obituary

Gary Alan Taylor, a citizen of Eureka, California, passed away on November 1, 2021 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident on the previous day. Gary Taylor was born on March 24, 1953. He is the son of Richard and Shirley Lou (Gardner) Taylor and grew up in St. Johns, where he attended St. Johns High School, from which he graduated in 1971. During the time of the Vietnam War, he was a member of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany because he was required to serve his country. After completing his military obligation, he enrolled in the GM Trade School and went on to work for General Motors for a significant number of years as a tool grinder.

Subsequently, he worked as a tool grinder for Terry Sehlke and Olympia Tool in St. Johns. Gary was a talented artist who worked for the Lansing State Journal, contributing portraits and political cartoons to the publication. Caricatures were another one of his many talents, and he took great pleasure in drawing them for the individuals he knew. He never met a stranger. Friends and family were welcome to stop by Gary’s house at any time for a beer and some good times. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a story to tell about anything you could think of.
