He held the positions of Court Security, SRO and retired as Sergeant of the SRO division. Garcia was a great man who will be sorely missed. Astor A. Garcia, who was given the nickname “Tochy” by his family and friends, was born on April 23, 1959 in the city of Holguin, Cuba. His parents, Susana Torralbas Garcia and Astor Garcia, were Cuban immigrants. During the Freedom Flight flights that took place in 1966, Astor immigrated from Cuba to the United States of America. In 1987, he acquired the honor of becoming a citizen of the United States. Astor received his high school diploma from South Miami in 1977 and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Florida in 1982. Both institutions are located in Gainesville. While Astor was a student at the University of Florida, he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and participated in the UF cheerleading team.

After that, he moved on to judge cheerleading competitions at the national level. Astor obtained a position with Springs Window Fashions in 1985, and he worked there for a total of 24 years, climbing through the ranks to become the Director of Field Sales and Service. Astor’s most recent employments were with Hunter Douglas and Caesarstone, in addition to Bunbury & Associates Realtors. He was the epitome of someone who was good with people. He was shrewd, organized down to the smallest detail, and selfless. Astor was exceptionally skilled in all elements of sales, including establishing connections and fostering relationships.  Read more
