Gabriel Brandon Hernandez, age 43, a resident of New Lenox who formerly resided in Hammond, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 5, 2022, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. He was the loving husband of Marie Hernandez (Martinez); beloved father of his baby girl Aurora who was his world; dearest son of Juan and the late Blanca (Mendez) Hernandez; dearest brother of John (Angie) Hernandez and Cynthia (Rob) Hernandez-Trost; fond uncle to many nieces Gabriel worked as an electrician for Gurtz Electric Company in Arlington Heights in addition to his duties as an electrician for Local 134. He had earned his degree from Purdue University and was a devoted supporter of the Chicago Bears. On Friday, September 9, 2022, a reception will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, after which people will proceed to St. Jude Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM. Kurtz Memorial Chapel is located at 102 E Francis Rd., New Lenox, Illinois 60451. After the service, the burial will take place at the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Orland Park. Donations in memory of Aurora Hernandez would be gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers and would be used for her benefit. Full obituary

His parents, Paulita Hernandez and Gerald (Sara) Hernandez, his sisters Lyric Martinez, Kiana Hernandez, and Santana Hernandez, his brother Ramiro, his grandmothers Angeles Arriaga and Carolyn (Dennis) Weber, his grandfather Florencio Hernandez, his step-brothers Levi Thompson and Royce Thompson, and his step-sister Ava Thompson will always treasure the memory of Santiago.
The schools that Santiago attended were the Monroe Elementary School, the Studebaker School, and My Little World Day Care. He was an extremely active child who never met a stranger because he was so kind to all of the people he met. Santiago had a very witty personality, and he cherished every moment of his life. He looked forward to going to school and was helpful to everyone he met there. Nena and Royce were two of his closest friends. Santiago had a deep respect for law enforcement; in fact, he never left the house without his handcuffs and always appeared in public dressed as a police officer. Source
