The Fort Wayne Police Department has lost a seasoned detective who served the department for many years. The department said on Friday that Det. Donald Kidd had passed away suddenly late on Thursday night. He was 52. Kidd had been with the police for the better part of 17 years. According to a statement released by the head of the police department, Steve Reed, “it is with a very heavy heart that we relay this unfortunate news.
” During this trying time, I ask that you continue to keep Kidd’s family in your thoughts and prayers. When we all join together to pay tribute to Detective Donald Kidd, the Fort Worth Police Department will be there to show their support for the officer’s family. Donald R. Kidd, Sr., age 74, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away on August 17, 2018, at home with family and friends at his side. He was a longtime resident of Portsmouth. Honey Ann (Sullivan) Kidd, his wife, was his wife, and he was her husband. Donald W. Kidd was the son of the late Thomas W. Kidd, Jr. and the late Dorothy (McMann) Kidd. He was born on September 14, 1943 in the city of Fall River, Massachusetts. From 1961 through 1964, Donald served with honor in the United States Army. A significant portion of his service was spent in Germany, a nation that he held in high regard. Boating was Donald’s true lifelong love and passion.
It was his father who established the Pirate Cove Marina in Portsmouth in 1967, and he was the marina’s owner and operator during his time there. He rose through the ranks to become one of the most successful J Boat dealers in the annals of the firm. Donald was a skilled racer and keen sailor, and he won a number of races all throughout New England. In the end, Donald’s interest shifted to power boating, and he embarked on a lengthy cruising adventure that took him from Northeast Harbor, Maine, through Key West, Florida, the Bahamas, and many locations in between.
