He was known for his seemingly endless youth. EW can confirm that after undergoing a procedure in Los Angeles, Clark suffered a massive heart attack and passed away. The former Philadelphia disc jockey got his start as a guest host on a show called Bob Horn’s Bandstand when he was just starting out in the industry. In 1956, he took over, marking the beginning of a long and illustrious career that would earn him the title of “America’s Oldest Teenager.” The show was picked up by ABC in 1957 for a national run, which kept the expanding teen market captivated and solidified Clark’s position as a pivotal figure in contemporary popular culture. The show, which featured a heady combination of dance performances by studio audiences and guest appearances by popular musicians, aired daily until 1963, then relocated to Hollywood the following year, where it continued to air weekly until 1987, after which it went into syndication for an additional two years. During World War II, Dick was a member of the Merchant Marines, and on September 21, 2018, he was presented with the medals he earned for his service. On October 1, 1947, Dick and Nettie L. Lewis exchanged their vows and became husband and wife. They were blessed with five offspring. Nettie passed away ten days before he did, on February 10, 2012. Dick engaged in a substantial amount of travel both internationally and within the United States. In 2016, he went to Washington, DC, on the Honor Flight, and it was one of the trips that he will remember the most. Dick had a variety of jobs in his younger years, but he claimed that attending a Dale Carnegie class at the age of 35 was the event that fundamentally altered the course of his life. After a successful career as an insurance agent and investment representative, he decided to retire in the year 1998. He had a positive influence on the lives of a great number of people.
