2. George Washington Death – Obituary
On Thursday, December 12, 1799, George Washington spent the late morning and all of the morning until three in the afternoon riding around on horseback and supervising farming activities. The snow gradually turned into hail, and then it began to pour after it had been snowing lightly earlier. It was suggested that Washington change out of his wet riding attire before dinner when he returned from his ride. Washington, who was famous for his promptness, decided to keep on wearing the wet clothes he had on.
The next morning delivered a scratchy throat in addition to three inches of fresh snow. In spite of the fact that he was feeling ill, Washington went to the hanging wood area on the east side of the Mansion as soon as the weather improved so that he could select trees for the enslaved workmen to remove. It was reported that George Washington’s voice became increasingly raspy as the day progressed. On Friday evening, as was the case on most other evenings of the week, Washington spent time with his wife Martha and his secretary Tobias Lear reading the newspapers. Source
