Demaryius Thomas Obituary: The medical examiner in Fulton County, Georgia, stated on Sunday that Demaryius Thomas, a receiver for the Denver Broncos who had won the All-Pro award four times, passed away due to complications from seizures. Thomas passed away on December 9 at his home in Roswell, Georgia, less than half a year after retiring from the National Football League (NFL). He was 33. Thomas was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, also known as C.T.E., in July by medical professionals from Boston University who examined his brain. C.T.E. is a form of brain degeneration that is caused by repeated blows to the head. The disease does not result in death and can only be diagnosed after the patient has passed away. Thomas had a car accident in 2019 in which his head cracked the windshield, and a hydraulic rescue tool was required to remove him from the vehicle. The doctors said they believed that this accident was the cause of Thomas’s seizure disorder. The neuropathologist who examined Thomas’s brain, Dr. Ann McKee, concluded that it was highly improbable that C.T.E. was the cause of Thomas’s seizures and that Thomas most likely passed away as a result of suffocation following one of his seizures.
