19-year-old woman shot, killed in Orange County identified

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 19-year-old woman was shot and killed early Wednesday at an Orange County apartment complex, deputies said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Raniyah A’shanti Gandy died in the shooting, which happened around 3 a.m. at The Park at Highgate on North Powers Drive near Silver Star Road.

A woman in her late teens was shot and killed early Wednesday at an Orange County apartment complex, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were called to the area and found Gandy suffering from a gunshot wound. Gandy was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, sheriff’s officials said.

Homicide detectives said the shots were likely fired from a vehicle.

Video from the scene shows bullet holes in the driver-side window of a car, with dozens of evidence markers nearby.

Information about the suspected shooter and vehicle have not been released.

Orange County deputies say a woman was shot and killed as they search for the suspected shooter.

Caleb Grogan, 23, said the shooting happened near his apartment and the gunshots woke him up.

“I was asleep and first thing I heard was my girlfriend hit the floor and I just heard the gunshots keep coming so I got on the floor, too. They kept going, 16 to 20 shots,” Grogan said.

An investigation is ongoing.
