1. Homer L. Highfield Obituary, of Brick Church – Death
Homer Larry Highfield, age 81, of Brick Church, passed away in the presence of his son at Allegheny General Hospital on September 9, 2022. He was a fantastic father and father-in-law, a lovely grandfather, and the proprietor of a thriving shoe store. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Judy. On March 20, 1941, he was welcomed into the world in Gilpin Township by his parents, Homer and Mildred (Gray) Highfield. In his early years, Larry got his start in the workforce at Wade’s Shoes in Vandergrift. It was there that he met the woman who would eventually become his wife, Judy. She had gone there to buy a pair of shoes.
After falling in love with one another, the couple tied the knot in 1968. In due time, he established his own business and named it Larry’s Shoes, which is located on Philadelphia Street in Indiana. After operating the shop for more than 20 years, he decided to close it and instead work for his cousins at Kalmar Motors in Gilpin, where they sold automobiles. Both Larry and Judy had been active participants in the Elderton Presbyterian Church for a significant amount of time. He was there for Judy throughout her fight with Alzheimer’s disease, all the way up until her passing in 2017. Larry enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife and children, as well as his beloved cat, Marvin, and watching KDKA-TV see what his son was up to. Source
