Dale Earnhardt, an American auto racing driver, and team owner were killed instantly on February 18, 2001, due to a basilar skull fracture that he sustained in a collision during the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500. Earnhardt crashed into a retaining wall after making contact with Sterling Marlin and Ken Schrader. After some more time had passed, he was pronounced dead at the Halifax Medical Center. After Adam Petty in May 2000, Kenny Irwin Jr. in July 2000, and Tony Roper in October 2000, Dale Earnhardt was the fourth NASCAR driver to be killed by a basilar skull fracture within an eight-month span. 2. Pat Dale Death, born in Salford, Greater Manchester – Obituary

Patricia Knight was the third of four children to be born to Winifred (nee Kelly), a full-time mother who did volunteer work for the British Legion, and Joe Knight, who worked a variety of jobs throughout his life and became a driving instructor in his later years. Patricia was born in Salford, which is located in Greater Manchester. At the age of 14, she left St. Gilbert’s Elementary School in Eccles and went on to work a variety of jobs, including at WH Smith and Turners Asbestos. In 1951, she married George Dale, a fellow leader in the local scout organization who worked as a plant-hire manager in Manchester.

Pat and George opened their home and hearts to scores of foster children in addition to the 12 children they brought into the world through birth and adoption. There was no distinction between any of the children. They remember spending their vacations in the Lake District, receiving Creme Eggs in catering boxes, and having a dinner table that somehow, mysteriously, accommodated as many people as needed to be fed. She made sure to stay in touch with her entire family by keeping an open-door policy at her house, which was utilized on a daily basis, as well as by sending out birthday cards, making phone calls, and writing letters.   Read More
