3. Charles Edward “Chick” Ford III Obituary, resident of Virginia Beach – Death

The Larchmont neighborhood of Norfolk is where Chick spent his childhood. His educational background includes Larchmont Elementary School, Blair Junior High School, and Maury High School, from which he graduated with the class of 1964. Chick’s education at Old Dominion University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, was put on hold so that he could serve in the Naval Air Reserve during the Vietnam War. During that time, Chick was stationed in Vietnam. In the early stages of his career, Chick worked for Colonel Calvin Zedd, assisting him in the organization and management of auctions across the South.

Selling beach and swimwear up and down the East Coast, from New Jersey to Florida, was where he found his life’s work and where he achieved his greatest level of success. Some of the companies he represented included Delamer and Sunbilt. Chick moved from Norfolk to the Beach, where he lived for over fifty years, most notably at the North End on 58th Street, at the same time that a large number of his contemporaries did at the same time. He was a true “beach boy” in the sense that he adored going to the beach. His favorite thing to do was to spend the day at the beach with his wife, Pam, burying his toes in the soft sand, basking in the warm rays of the sun, and carrying on engaging conversations with his close circle of friends.
