The 16th of October, 1949 found Cervando “Sam” Lopez being born in the city of Harlingen, Texas. On Friday, April 1, 2022, Cervando passed away and went to be with the Lord. He was a resident of Houston, Texas, and he is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores Lopez; his daughter, Marcy Atkinson, and her husband Henry Atkinson; his grandson, Noah Ryan Atkinson; his sisters, Lydia Hinojosa and her husband Porfirio Hinojosa, Norma O. Dominguez and her husband Richard Dominguez, and Irma Lopez and her spouse Alice Torres; his brother, Sergio Cervando was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Army of the United States.

Cervando was awarded a number of medals and commendations for his service in the Army, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Overseas Service Bars, and the Bronze Star Medal. Cervando was a devoted spouse, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. He also cherished his role as a grandfather. He had a tremendous amount of love in his heart for his grandson Noah. He liked telling jokes, sitting outside, barbecuing, listening to Tejano music, and telling jokes, but he liked spending time with his family the most. He liked doing all of those things.  Read more
