“We believe they were trying to save the pets and animals they had in the house first and unfortunately didn’t make it out,” the couple’s grandson, Brian, said in a GoFundMe to raise money for the couple’s funeral costs. “We believe they were trying to save the pets and animals they had in the house first and unfortunately didn’t make it out.”
He continued, “The animals that they had saved were killed as a result of this catastrophe. They had a soft spot for critters and had even helped to save some of their lives right up until they passed away. When I was growing up, my family always made sure that we were doing all we could to save animals since it was something that they were very passionate about.”
Brian wrote the following after musing on the altruistic kindness of his grandparents toward other people: “They were the kind of people who would go out of their way to help a total stranger and would even give someone the shirt off their back. This tragedy struck us suddenly, and it still doesn’t feel real at all… if there is anyone out there who is willing to assist us in paying for the respectful burial of my grandparents, it would mean the world to my family and I.”
