1. Brenda Scavo Death, a native of Waterbury – Obituary

YORK – Brenda Scavo, who served as York County Treasurer for many years and was 59 years old when she passed away, fought cancer valiantly for a long period. Scavo is originally from Waterbury, but she and her husband Steve relocated to York in 1996 so that Steve could take advantage of work opportunities at Hamilton Sundstrand. In 1998, she began her career as an employee in the office of York County Clerk Pat Bredenkamp. Three years later, in 2001, she transferred to the office of the treasurer.

When it was announced in June of 2005 that the then-treasurer, Loretta Heiden, planned to retire the following month, the York County Commissioners unanimously decided to nominate Scavo as the county treasurer.  This appointment came as a result of the announcement. Scavo was sworn into office in the month of July 2005. Since then, she has won reelection for every term that has followed. She submitted her application to run for reelection earlier this year, and during the Primary Election in May, she did not face any opposition. Source
