His parents, W. Lennie Garrett Jr. and Kathleen O’Quinn Garrett, as well as his son, W. Lennie (Len) IV, and his sister-in-law, Ruth May, passed away before he did. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen O’Quinn Garrett. He had been a Mason for 51 years (39 of those years were spent with St. John Lodge 36), was a member of the ACCA Shrine Center and the ACCA Klownz (Williehugger), was the proprietor and owner of Garretts Auto Inc., was a member of VASCO (Virginia Automotive Service Cooperative), and had graduated from Douglas Freeman High School. Bill was born on August 31, 1927, and he spent his entire life in the community of Spring Lake. Growing up along the ocean was one of Bill’s favorite parts of his childhood. He attended elementary school, and then went on to graduate from Asbury Park High School in 1945. After completing his education, he signed up for the Navy and went to Virginia for his initial training. He was in the service from 1945 until 1947. After completing his obligation in the armed forces, he enrolled at Seton Hall University and earned a bachelor’s degree in business there.
Bill joined the Spring Lake First Aid Squad and was active there for a total of 17 years, during which time he served as President of the organization and held a number of other executive roles. Bill spent the summers of his youth working as a lifeguard, and it was in the summer of 1949 that he met the woman who would one day become his wife, Marie. Bill and Marie were wed in Manhattan in the year 1951, and since that time, they have been making Spring Lake their joyful home. Read more
