He was the son of William Henry Henyon and Mary Elizabeth Smith. He married Helen Marie Bowers on June 24, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. She preceded him in death on March 14, 1998.

Mr. Henyon graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1932. He attended college at Fordham University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1936. He then went on to receive his Master of Science degree in Chemistry from Columbia University in 1938. Mr. Henyon worked as a chemist for General Electric Company until 1945. In 1946, he began working for the United States Army Chemical Corps. He retired from the army after 30 years of service.

Mr. Henyons hobbies included gardening, fishing, reading, and playing chess. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16 in Flushing, Queens, NY.
Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Henyon and wife, Barbara of San Diego, CA and James A. Henyon and wife Patricia of West Palm Beach, FL; three daughters, Mrs. Joan M. O’Brien and husband, Patrick of North Bergen, NJ, Mrs. Nancy L. Kowalik and husband, Joseph of East Elmhurst, NY and Mrs. Carol A. Henyon and husband, Richard of Port Washington, NY; four grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Christopher and Nicholas; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Joshua, Jacob and Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 6, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Forest Hills, Queens, NY. Interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, NY. Arrangements were handled by the Siegel Funeral Home, Inc., 515-923-8500.
